What is our Life…

1421108_36471085

”WHAT is our life? A play of passion,

Our mirth the music of division,

Our mothers’ wombs the tiring-houses be,

”Where we are dressed for this short comedy,

Heaven the judicious sharp spectator is,

That sits and marks still who doth act amiss.

Our graves that hide us from the searching sun

Are like drawn curtains when the play is done.

Thus march we, playing, to our latest rest.

Only we die in earnest, that’s no jest.”

SIR WALTER RALEIGH (1554-1618)

I love Sir Walter Raleigh‘s poems, it’s poignant, somewhat melancholic but true. He hits the cord in the right places for me, and in a way, I want to be reminded of my fallibility, hence, my love for this morbid poem (so says my friend) Life is deceitfully short but our footsteps can still lead to great things if we so wish! My only prayer is, may generations yet unborn, write our stories well.

Have a great week ahead!

Much love, always.

Secrets And Skeletons

Secrets and skeletons skipping in my room.

I dodged their fiery gaze and pretended not to see.

‘Can’t be kept in forever!’ They hollered.

Still, I pretended not to hear.

‘When the time is right, I’ll let you out!’

I surmised.

This is a funny poetic thought for me, sometimes we deliberately keep secrets, sometimes we don’t, but just find out that some things are best kept in the dark for a while. Do you have secrets? (in retrospect I don’t think I do) And what is your worse kept secret? If you have one do let me know. Enjoy today, and the rest of your week!

Much love, always.

To hold….

1062252_76239972

To hold against all odds.

To love against all odds.

‘Let’s make love, not war,’

‘If only these were the wishes of the majority,’

said the wrinkled old lady.

‘Well,’ quipped the husband,

‘The earth will explode with love then,’

And he smiled.

Well this weekend, I hope we’ll all make love (erm… in whatever form, it doesn’t have to be the real thing … 😉 you know what I mean! 😉 ), and not war, I hope we’ll all smile and not frown, I sincerely wish we’ll all be happy and not sad, because according to C.S Lewis, ‘Affection is responsible for nine-tenths of whatever solid and durable happiness is there in our lives!’ I guess, I shouldn’t say more.

Have a love filled weekend my dear friends!

Much love, always!

Stranded At Santum Close (4)

The man fell down with a  heavy swoop, hitting the ground like a bomb, his eyes turned red and Linda screamed, staring at her assailant in shock.

*****************************

A day after Linda’s disappearance, Gordon was desperate to find answers and he decided to check his wife’s things. He rummaged through the contents of the drawers in their room as sweat poured from his agitated body in torrents. He threw his wife’s clothes on the floor, looking around with a deranged glint in his eyes and swore softly under his breath. His gaze swept the room clean and he shook his head in despair, he was sure he had checked everywhere.

Eliza appeared at the doorway with arms akimbo and his demeanour spelt trouble but Gordon was not in the mood for his arguments.

‘Dad, what do you think you’re doing?’

Gordon sighed in defeat and answered, ‘I am looking for clues son, anything that could show me what to do!’ Eliza considered that, came inside the room, then sat down on the bed.

‘I found mom’s diary on the table when she left for work yesterday, she must have forgotten it, you might find some answers there.’ ‘Eliza said quietly, his eyes sad. Gordon took the blue diary from him and held it to his heart.

‘Thanks son, I’ll see if I can find anything in it.’

Eliza nodded and left the room and the next thing Gordon heard was a deafening sound as gunshots erupted outside his bedroom, he heard stomping footsteps and his heart broke into a million fragments.  Disregarding his own safety, Gordon bolted out of the room after his son, but it was too late. Eliza was lying on the corridor with blood pouring out of his chest wound.

‘No!!!’ Gordon yelled and held his son close to his chest, weeping uncontrollably. He gently laid him back, ran into his room, yanked open the door of his walk in wardrobe, picked up one of his semi automatic rifles, and strode out of his room, darting downstairs but there was no one around. Minutes later, sounds of siren tore down his street and Gordon finally realized, that  his life was rapidly going downhill.

Three police officers alighted from their cars, their gloomy eyes suggested they hated the sight of the grief ridden man whose house had become accursed.

Why Can’t I Fly?

shutterstock_87665194

I read a brightly illustrated children’s book this morning titled, ‘Why Can’t I Fly‘ by Ken Brown and I learnt a lot of lessons. The story is about a discontented ostrich who wanted to fly at all cost. Ostrich continually failed to appreciate his many good qualities, the only thing he cared about – is flying and he tried this repeatedly with disastrous results. He built himself a flying apparatus, yet, he failed still, then a miracle came, his efforts were rewarded when he tried again with his flying apparatus and he was flying, overjoyed, he yelled for his friends to see him flying, he wanted to prove to them that he could fly but lo and behold, his friends were nowhere to be found, why?

Because they were carrying his apparatus, all of them! And it made me realise that life is too complex to go at it alone, let’s not be like the Ostrich, who failed to realise his many good qualities, let’s surround ourselves with friends and loved ones. The life of a loner is a terrible one.

I hope you’ll all have a fun-filled week, as for me, I’m on the bed with my right feet swollen – I fell down the stairs yesterday on my way to church. It’s nothing serious, a pack of ice and some Ibuprofen has done the trick, the downside is I can’t  move around as such because I walk funny but the plus side is, I’m not going to work and the kids are on holiday! 🙂 Hooray!!

Have fun and much love, always!

A New Life

I watched in awe as splendour drips from your throne.

I asked you this questions,

How do you heal broken bones?

How do heal crushed spirits?

How do you heal broken homes?

How do you save man from himself?

How do you save the depressed?

The hungry?

The weak?

And the forgotten?

And you answered me, your eyes filled with kindness,

‘I infuse life

Look at my incredible creations,

the rolling hills, the birds, the flowers

my mountains in the clouds,

I give new life, even when the old wears away…’

Then I woke up.

This my poetic thought for this week, sometimes when we feel weak and tired of life, ( and it can happen to the most positive person on earth) just remember that you’re not alone. You’re not an accident in the equation of life, your life matters, you don’t have to believe in a God to know that life didn’t begin with ‘the big bang theory’ there is a reason for YOU. Let that be at the back of your mind through out this month. This is the first day of a beautiful month, a month that I hope would be free from heart aches and troubles for mankind, life is incredibly short but it can also be awesome and beautiful. I wish you sound health, peace and love where ever you are in the world! 🙂

I have missed many posts, friends, do bear with me, I promise to read all your awesome posts as soon as I can. I wish you all a prosperous and peaceful month, above all, please… Live well…

Much love, always.

A Close Shave…

ludeza

I woke up today with a languid feeling and a nasty headache.

Naturally, I should have called in sick at the office but I had deadlines to meet, meetings to attend and one million things that needed my attention. When it was two on the dot, I left the office, dashed to the grocery store to pick a few things, and made my way to my children’s school.

I had a few things on both hands and was angry with myself, I shouldn’t have bought so much stuff when I didn’t take the car. I looked straight ahead and saw cars slowing to a crawl. I walked briskly to the toucan crossing and wobbled along…

Shortly before I got to the other side of the toucan crossing, everything seemed to slow to a stop. I heard a whooshing sound and wondered briefly why that was, cars were still at a standstill on both sides of the crossing, but something was not right. I hesitated briefly and thank God did.

If I had hurried past the crossing, I would have had a nasty collision with a daredevil driver, who slipped past the other cars who were waiting at the crossing. The green light for the pedestrian was still on, so naturally, I had the right of way.  Suddenly, a ‘Smart‘ car appeared from nowhere and zoomed past me…

It was a close shave and a terrifying experience!

Well, I am glad to be home and not on a hospital bed. I would still be able to admire the dawning of a new day, to appreciate life and nature. To all my friends, please keep safe. God be with you all.

Much love, always.  🙂

Illusion…

Winter Trees at Sunset

We  rushed through our days,
We dashed through our nights,

We ploughed and worked through our years,

We toiled and built and heaped on wealth,

We didn’t wait to think;

What is the purpose of it all?

Is everything a mere illusion?

Is there purpose to this life?

Or do we just live like a leaf in the wind?

With no care in the world.

After all, a leaf has no illusion

Of the fate that awaits it.

But if we do wait and pause,

And behold the glory that surrounds us,

At the smile of a new-born,

Or the toothless grin of an old man,

Or the splendour of the morning,

We’ll surely know for a certainty…

That life is not an illusion.

There is a purpose to it all…

Much love dear friends. 🙂

Your Face!

LEROY SKALSTAD

What’s in a face you may wonder.

The face captures the essence of the soul.

Your face is like the gate-keeper of your destiny.

It defines who you really are.

Your eyes draw people to you like magnet.

Your nose sniffs out success.

Your lips tastes life.

Your teeth sustain you!

Your cheeks impact on your glory.

It puffs up when you’re full and shrinks at your lowest ebb.

Your face is permanently yours.

You can’t divorce your face.

You’re stuck with it!

You might BOTOX it.

Plum it up.

Try to redefine it.

But you can’t go on holiday without it!

You can bleach it white.

Or darken it with suntan creams.

But it’s forever yours!

Your face is beautiful.

 Your face is a mystery!

It’s the mirror to your soul.

Take care of your face guys… it would be with you for eternity!

I saw a man today on my way to work, my eyes locked with his for a brief second and we connected briefly. The man’s face stayed with me throughout today. He was an old man, probably tending towards eighty but he looked happy. I couldn’t help thinking of the kind of life he’d lived to that moment when we passed by each other like breeze on a country side. The writer in me sprung to life and when I got home, I penned this words. I hope you like it!

Much love to you my friends!

No Secret Ingredient

shutterstock_132016772

I watched this interesting film on Saturday, ‘Kunfu Panda.’ (It’s a great film, the story line is simply awesome!)

What really struck me about the film was when Po‘s dad told him something which really caught my attention. This duck dude, who was famed for his special noodles said,

‘There is no Secret Ingredient!!!…To make something special you just have to believe it’s special.’

Everyone thought Po’s dad had a secret ingredient which made his noodles tastier and different. But he simply believed in himself and his ability to make a great noddle.

You just have to believe in YOURSELF, your marriage, your friends, your job… Yeah, your job!

Self belief and self-confidence is not being cocky, or damn too sure of yourself. It is having the belief that you can scale greater heights… and succeed.

If you feel you’re worthless, believe me – you are, and why is that? You’ll start behaving in a worthless way, doing things that makes you agree with your thought processes! But the good  news is – because you FEEL something doesn’t make it right! You can actually change your thinking!  You can rise above your self doubts and lack of confidence.

And I think it’s really simple.

Every morning when you wake up, look in the mirror and say,

‘I can do anything I want to do today!’ (Positive things!)

And believe me, you can, when you believe!

Have a great day everyone!!

Much love, always.
