”I Got You!”

Rainbow field

I’d totally prepared another post when I decided to take a little nap and my 2-year-old son sauntered after me. I groaned inwardly knowing my quick ‘shut-eye’ was fading into the shadows. Well he’s my son and I love him so we played on the bed, rumpled the sheets and like I suspected, he soon got bored and went back to the living room to watch ‘Agent Oso,’ on the T.V and play with his ten-year old brother.

I had settled into a blissful sleep, you know that kind where you feel as if you’re been rocked and your bed was moving in consonance to your breathing? Well, I was in that threshold when intuitively, my eyes flipped open, my son had climbed my bed and was sitting precariously near the edge, it seemed as if he was navigating a rugged mountain by the look on his cute face, and everything happened in a split second…

If my son had fallen from that bed, I’m sure the Queen would have heard his wailing in Buckingham palace, so I was not about to let that happen; his head had almost reach the floor when I caught hold of his ankle.

”I got you!” I said breathlessly and put him down, he smiled and disappeared from the room, calling out his brother’s name.

This incident brought this thought to my head, in life, we’re surrounded by loved ones, friends and family members who are always around when we are happy, sad or… just been alive. I think we should appreciate them more, you know my saying, life is too short, let people around you know you care… And just as we marvelled at the beauty of a rainbow, let us marvel at their love for us because they always got our backs!

Tales of Five Lies and Stepping into Greatness!

tales-of-five-lies-paperback

I want to give you my readers a few nuggets to chew on my book, aptly titled, ‘’Tales Of Five Lies.’’ And for the record, nobody can predict the end of the world, so why not enjoy yourselves, tuck into your turkey and march into your glorious future! This is an updated version of the book.

Excerpts:

Time dragged on. I contemplated returning to my comfortable bed, and that was when I saw a man darting behind a tree. He was eight meters away. My senses came alive as I watched with apprehension, my hand on the gun my dad gave me before he died. It’s always with me as a safety measure.

I stood still, watching the man’s movement. I noticed how he glanced around like a rabid dog. Satisfied he was alone, he whistled. Two men emerged from the shadows, dragging a bulging bag between them. I peered at my wristwatch to catch the time, but it was too dark. My mind went wild with all kinds of theories. What are they dragging off that night? How did my best friend get a whiff of their plans? This was wrong. It wasn’t right. I felt it deep in my bones.

The cold night air wrapped around me like a second skin, sending shivers down my spine, and the thick canopy of trees made the moon barely visible, casting ghostly shadows across the forest floor. The pungent odour of decomposing leaves blended with the fragrance of moist earth. The rustling of nocturnal creatures and the occasional hoot of an owl were the only sounds that broke the silence. As I watched the men, I noticed their dishevelled appearance. Their clothes were tattered and stained, and their hair was unkempt. The man who whistled had a scar above his eyebrow, making him appear menacing. I was proud of my night eye; spotting a scar that far away was no mean feat, yet I couldn’t see the time on my watch. It was blurry. The other two were hefty men, with arms that looked like tree trunks. I cursed my short-sightedness. I wished I’d taken my reading glasses.

They got to a secluded spot and began to dig…

The Supernatural…

The Superntural

This is a true story, please read on…

Gross darkness blanket our street as ravenous fever raged through my body like an inferno. My mom mopped my body with towels trying to bring the rampaging fever down. I  watched with trepidation, my lips parched and dry.

It dawned on me that if I survive the night, I would be in the clear, but morning was like light years away. My mom looked at me with a mournful expression in her brown expressive eyes.

”You should have given your consent.”

”No mom,” I whispered with a vigorous shake of my head. I refused surgery because I had premonitions it would only worsen my condition.

Let me rewind back, to a week earlier…

I was a boisterous nineteen year old university girl. I was popular, well liked and friendly. Hardly would you see me with a frown, I was always smiling, why not? Life was good. My boyfriend ( now my husband) was one of the nicest man on campus, my course work was excellent but everything changed one windy night when I had a sharp pain in my left  ear.

I thought nothing of it until almost a week later when I couldn’t hear properly, my condition rapidly disintegrated overnight and my boyfriend brought me home. My dad bundled me into  his car and off we go!

At the hospital, the doctor did all sorts of tests and the final verdict was I had a growth in my ear and surgery was the right course of treatment but I refused and he sent me home with some medications. My neck was immobile, I couldn’t turn my head, I couldn’t eat and my ear hurt like hell, it was as if my throat was on fire! I was now torn between the devil and the deep blue sea, I chose the sea and my dad brought me back home.

I strode to my room and laid on my bed wondering if I had made the right decision. An earlier explosion on a transformer had plunged the street into darkness, my mom had left a lantern in my room but it suddenly went off. I listened to my breathing as pain racked through my body. The pain killers and antibiotics were powerless against the ferocious attack and I slowly drifted off into a dreamless slumber.

I don’t know how long I slept for but I woke up to a strange feeling, I was no longer alone, I wanted to call out but my voice was gone and I prayed this simple prayer.

God, if you are real, please heal me now,”

prayer..

Few minutes after my prayer, I heard soft tapping on my bedroom floor…one…two…three and I felt a hand on my left shoulder and I heard this words,

”I am here,”

And peace washed over me and I was off again, this time around I must have slept for hours because when I woke up, everywhere was silent.

I stood up and the first thing I realise was, I could move my neck.

My throat was clear and my white night-dress was soaked with pus coming from my ear, I could swallow.

I’ve been healed!

That experience was so real and I knew God answers prayers. That was my first tangible experience with the supernatural!

That was one of the reasons why I write supernatural thrillers, has anyone else experienced some strange encounters? I’ll love to read your story.

Thanks for reading my post:)

TIME

I quickened my pace, my heart in my mouth, the winter wind slashed my cheeks into shreds as involuntary tears slipped down my cold cheeks. I dread passing through that horrible alley but I’ve got no choice, none of my friends were going my way, so I had to walk home alone.

I clenched and unclenched my fists and trod on, my heels making a tapping danceable sound. At first, I thought it was my mind but the whispering got louder and louder.

”I shouldn’t have gone, I shouldn’t have gone,” I kept repeating under my breath, at the same time casting surreptitious glances behind me, trying to ignore the deadly whispers in my head. I don’t want to show my fear though it was all over me, its slimy hands rests on my soul with ease.

It was insanely cold and I was scantily dressed for that time of the year. I hugged myself and trudged on, mad with myself for my stubbornness. I was almost out of what I perceived was ‘the danger zone’ when three men appeared out of nowhere, standing a few paces from me, their faces were hidden with their hoods.

They were breathing heavily but I noticed something unusual about them, they seemed to hiss like snakes. the hair at the nape of my neck stood on end but I was ready to fight to the death.

I knew it, I saw this coming, I thought bitterly, my stomach in knots, but strangely enough, I was not afraid. Everything happened so quickly that I barely remembered the details.

The men defied gravity as they flew into me while my arms and legs did the rest, my taekwondo training had not been in vain, all thanks to my mom.

In less than twenty seconds, it was over.

I didn’t wait to see if the men were okay before I took to my heels. When I got home, I crept up to my room and wept bitterly.

I was wasting my time, I could have died easily and would have become another statistic. I glanced at my watch, it was one o’clock in the morning, I knew my mum would be fuming and she had every right to.

I finally managed to sleep because I was so exhausted, barely half an hour later, I was rudely woken up when I felt a cold hand on  my shoulder and the whispering began again. I propped myself up on one elbow while I used the other hand to switch my bedside lamb on and the three men I thought I’d beaten were standing calmly against my door, in my room, I could feel their eyes boring into mine.

How did they get in? I should have called the police after I managed to get away, I thought frantically and this time around, I was afraid. My parents’ room was next door and if I scream, I am sure they would be in my room within minutes but do I have the time to do that?

My time was running out, I could feel it deep within my soul. My life flashed before my eyes in seconds and I wished I had listened to my mum. She had warned me to use my time well.

What should I do?

NP: I wrote this at the spur of a moment, it’s a short story. Would love your feedbacks!

Cheers-:)

Drake dodged bullets flying past as he engaged the enemy in mortal combat, his platoon mate was shooting rapidly, his face contorted in war rage as they moved into enemy territory, by the end of the night, his friend laid beside him dead. They counted their losses, evacuated the wounded and retreated back to camp.

Lying down on his bunk bed, Drake’s exhaustion and the death of his friend temporarily took a backstage as he gazed admiringly at the picture of his bride of  twelve months. She was his saving grace, the few letters she wrote to him gladden his heart but it wasn’t the same like seeing her in the flesh. Her picture was also his only source of comfort and in a way, he would survive his stint at the war front only because her thoughts gave him strength.

The war dragged on longer than expected and after twenty-four months, he came back home unexpectedly. The cab driver dropped him in front of his house and he walked slowly to the front door, his heart beating with excitement. But he held it all together and knocked the door, there was no response but he saw someone peeping through the window.

Finally after waiting for about ten minutes which seemed like ten years, Anna opened the door by an inch, Drake’s broad smile was met with stony silence.

”Hello darling,” Drake crooked out in what he thought was a normal voice, but his wife said nothing and she also had problems looking up.

Drake’s intuition was to push her back into the house and then he saw the protruding tummy. It didn’t take him long before he made mental calculations  to know that he was not the father, his bag dropped to the ground with a thud and he felt faint.

And then he heard the unmistakable voice of his friend, who couldn’t be drafted to the war because of an illness.

”Honey who was that?” Jonas called out from the room and they both heard footsteps, Anna’s eyes was still drawing maps on the ground beside her husband.

Jonas pulled the door back to show his rumpled pyjamas and hairy legs. Drake doesn’t need a soothsayer to tell him what has gone on while he was away fighting for his country.

Jonas retreated back to the safety of the living room while Anna finally found her voice,

”I am sorry,” she said and wanted to touch him.

Drake’s dream was over, his visions for a happy family crashed like a pack of dominoes at his feet. Ever so slowly, he picked up his bag and turned away from his home…

If you were Drake, what would you do?

*****

Most of you must know by now that I am a story-teller and I guess it runs in my genes. My mum would keep you enraptured for hours on end about tales and rib cracking jokes, my dad would look on smiling just adding titbits to the tales.

And I have one good news, the second edition of my novel, ”The Feet Of Darkness” would be out soon and I would love the candid opinions of my friends.

The Watchman

The angel fell down with a thud and grabbed hold of Arianna, she spurned round and screamed, her eyes turned red and her mother shook her so she could come back to reality.

”You’re safe now, it was all a dream,” she whispered stroking her hair and singing softly until she slept again, her head in her mother’s arms.

Arianna’s mom gently laid her on the bed and pulled the duvet up to her chin and silently tiptoed out of the room but before she closed the door, her daughter whispered,

”He is with me mom, I am no longer afraid.”

A light shone above her head while a huge mysterious man sat by the window pane, watching her sleep. The night was quiet but Arianna’s snoring was like a slow ballad in a quiet night. The man watching sleep smiled and waited, he would stay with her until dawn and for the rest of her life.

Her mother smiled and closed the door, but she lingered outside her daughter’s door, listening for any sound but she heard nothing and then she walked to her own room, safe in the knowledge that Arianna’s sleep will no longer be punctuated with nightmares.

But is Arianna safe?

This is just a short illustration intended for this post.

Like Arianna, we live in a world fraught with dangers but we need to have an anchor, someone we can trust, somebody to run to when the going gets tough, someone to sing with in time of jubilee, and someone to talk to in our moment of fear.

We cannot leave our lives to chance, blown about by every wind of doctrine, we need a watchman, someone to care for our soul, to give us a reason for living.

I believe nobody was born as a mistake, there is purpose to every life, a reason for our existence.

I have found mine, have you found yours?
