Shadows And Dust

Let the Feelings Go

Let the Feelings Go (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Feelings are useless and trivial if it cannot be substantiated with facts and how do you do that?

What people say or do can influence how we feel but that shouldn’t be the case else we’ll just end up frustrated and sad all the time.

Life basically, is what we feel, several times I’ll say to my husband,

”I am so tired, I hate my job, I feel I should quit,” and he would smile coyly with a knowing look in his brown expressive eyes and reply,

”Why don’t you have a little nap and I’ll take care of the kids and make dinner”

Once those golden words are out, my job is no longer a hell hole. The fact of the matter was, I was simply tired and assumed that because I was physically drained my job was to blame because that was the way I was feeling.

But my feeling was wrong. My job should not dictate how I feel, I should decide my own emotions and how I react to people or events in my life. However, without feelings, emotion, sense, sensation, mood, reaction we would all be robots.

Don’t get me wrong guys, maybe, you work in the most horrible place on earth but your feelings should not dictate your pursuit of happiness. You can never get along with everyone but why not try to get along with yourself first!

Feelings are like shadows, they follow us around. It is associated with love, hatred, murder, lust you just name it, the list is endless.

But feelings can be tamed and controlled. You can choose the way you react to circumstances in your life even if you can’t control a larger part of it.

Dust  are filth that should be cleanse, some of our feelings should be totally ignored, so that we can forge ahead and achieve great things in life.

Fanatics On The Prowl

It seemed the events of the past few days can be aptly described as ludicrous, uncalled for and a useless way to express one’s faith, or the madness of faith. I don’t get why I would bother fighting for a ‘God’ who cannot defend ‘himself’

I respect people and their ‘faiths’ but when at the instance of very little provocation, there is wanton destruction of lives and property, then something is fundamentally wrong.

I was watching the news today and was dismayed that Pakistan declared ‘Day Of Love’ a day designated to show love for their prophet, a day to fight for Prophet Mohammed and what was the end result? Blatant waste of lives.

Scores of the demonstrators lay dead, in a pool of their own blood, all because a man dared express his opinion about a religion. I don’t subscribe to insulting people or their beliefs but neither do I support murder!

Islam is declared as a religion of peace and tolerance yet time and time again we have seen thousands mutilated and killed in  the name of a god?

Nigeria is a classical example where a group of fanatics will gather together in the name of religion and orchestrate orgies of violence against defenceless people. Thousands have been brutally murdered, especially in the northern parts of Nigeria densely populated by Muslims…

A word wrongly spoken or a whisper misdirected could spark a riot and Christians are always at the receiving end again and again and again.

Boko Haram, a militant Jihadist sect famed for their murderous activities have killed thousands of people in the northern part of Nigeria, according to Wikipedia, ten thousand people are reported to have been killed since the organisation was formed in 2001 by Mohammed Yusuf who believed that Western education is sinful and that Sharia law must be enforced at all cost in the country.

Yet, he was riding a jeep and using laptop, he even knew how to make a bomb! I can go on and on over this but as for me, I don’t see the reason why I would fight for a god who cannot defend himself…

Footprints

What do we aim to contribute to life? Do we just breeze in and fade out without making an impact in the lives of others or a difference in the way the world works? By leaving our footprints in the sand of time simply means to be remembered for good things when we are gone. And while we are still here, to celebrate life, to be a joy giver and not a taker, to believe in ourselves and above all to preserve the sanctity of life which in all things is sacred in itself.

Which brings me to the words of WILLIAM ARTHUR WARD who wrote, ”Believe while others are doubting. Plan while others are playing. Decide while others are daydreaming. Begin while others are procrastinating. Work while others are wishing. Save while others are wasting. Listen while others talking. Smile while others are frowning. Persist while others are quitting.”

I think that sums it up pretty well.

Nice work Willis on your enlightening articles, and I quiet agree with Bill that volcanoes might have a greater impact on sea ice conditions than has been previously thought.

I love this pic, he is so cool, he’s also oozing confidence! Way to go BO..

Hateful Wars

I was glad when the war in Libya was finally over but then Syria began the systematic annihilation of her citizens and the orgy of violence gradually escalates. However, it was Bashar Alhasad who initiated the deadly rites into the land of the dead.

Daily he is assisting the boat man(death) to take his people over to the land of no song and no sun. But sooner or later, the boat man will be back. He will be back for the prize, and it is his very soul, Bashar’s soul that will be harvested by the ancient riper.

I will be glad when this war is over… and the souls of the innocent are spared. But like my mother would say in this wonderful African proverb, ”The dog that will get lost will not hear the whistle of the hunter.”

Maybe dictators like Bashar are destined for perdition.

Makalawena

This is a beautiful lovely beach… I could just visualise myself here reclining on a beach chair and thinking of the next bestseller to write or just digging my feet in the soft sand. With my brood safely tucked away in the hotel. Love this!

What makes Makalawena special is that you have to REALLY want to get there.  Either you can walk across a scorching hot lava field (WITH sunscreen, believe me!), or drive on what my sister says is the “gnarliest” four wheel drive road she’s ever seen.  As it is, in order to even get to where you walk you have to drive on a pretty touchy road.  My husband went four wheeling for the first time ever on the way home, in our Honda Accord.

In the end, you get to this.  Total serenity.

A nearly deserted stretch of white sand beach with turquoise water.

It is part of Kehaka Kai state park, which has more than one beach associated with it.  Apparently there is good surfing here.  The water was pretty strong here, playing in the surf it was hard to stand your ground.  Kind of intense with little…

Less Of A Monster!

A View of Earth from Saturn

A View of Earth from Saturn (Photo credit: alpoma)

Of recent, I have watched different programmes about the end of the world. And it really got me thinking of what really matters, not the bills which sneaked stealthily through my door this morning, nor my recalcitrant agent or my elusive publishers. None of this weighty issues bothered me this morning when I woke up but just this  composite thought. Our beautiful earth is groaning under the weight of incessant wars, uncontrollable population and sheer wickedness and cruelty directed towards all living things. The degree and level with which these atrocious acts have been repeatedly committed is alarming. And I thought, will the world truly come to an end?

Yes, there will be an end, but no one can really predict the exact time and moment. And you would think that sometimes we should just pause and reappraised our lives, but do we do that? Don’t know about you but I sure do once in a while, like now as I am writing this piece.

And I ask myself soliloquizing, are we living in a cocoon? Isolated from the real world or actually living in ‘a world village’ whereby we can integrate and live with anyone from any race, tribe or ideologies. Where there is nothing like been politically correct, where there is no cast system, where the smoky bridge between the rich and the poor are irrevocably extinguished.

But It was not so in the beginning. God created all things beautiful and then the devil came and mess it up right? Wrong! Humans did the messing up bit, we lost the plot big time. But how do we rectify it all, simple! By becoming less of a monster!!

But if the world will really come to an end then what is the essence of life itself? This is a question I often ask myself; why the race to be rich at all cost and at the same time why would you want to be a pauper? If the world should implode today due to our destructive natures and selfishness, what would have been the reason for it all in the first place?

Why was the earth created by God? Why create humans and allow them to build weapons of mass destruction to annihilate each other? Now, these are questions I can’t comfortably answer but I do know that God gave us free will, it’s up to you what you make of it!

And to all my questions above, I believe the essence of life is love. It’s as simple as that and I truly believe  God created the world out of His love for humanity and all the richness of the earth for us to enjoy.

Maybe time is running out but we can still make an impact. Whether the world ends when I finish writing this post or in five billion years. We can make a change. A random acts of kindness will make us less of a monster.

Thanks for reading my post!
