End Of An Era…

English: Young Nelson Mandela. This photo date...

Nelson Mandela has gone the way of all mortals but his legacy lives on. I just heard the news of his passing and I couldn’t help it as a shudder passed through my body at the news. Many people have been expecting his passing, Mandela was ill but he lived well and achieved so much with his life.

My only hope is for humanity to emulate this iconic man, who fought against apartheid (mind you, he didn’t do it alone)  and won. He fought against prejudice and believed all men to be equal. He fought against the evil in men, against hatred, against racism…

There would be lots of words, but I can only say this… may we all leave a great legacy behind… Mandela is gone, he did his bit and generations yet unborn would learn about it.

It’s the end of an era…

Rest In Peace Nelson Mandela!

  1. This is the first I’ve heard. Going to sit silently now and think of his loving magnificent greatness. A loss of great magnitude. Thank you for posting this. Love, Paulette

I need to think about him too, he represented everything I think we should all seek… that is to banish hatred and love each other. Not thinking highly of ourselves. Thanks for stopping by dear friend.

  2. Reblogged this on The Persecution of Mildred Dunlap and commented:
RIP Nelson Mandela. Beautifully written homage to a great man.

    some names
    and
    individuals
    transcend memory
    and
    magnitude

Very sad news indeed. The leader others should follow. 95 years old and still remembered by many. The fact that my 17 year old told me without even asking who he is, says a lot about his legacy

  5. sknicholls says:

Thank you for sharing. He was prepared to die for an ideal in 1964 in his statement at trial. He lived on. And he will, in a legacy of love for all people.

  6. anguscroix says:

He was the bravest of the brave. Despite what he faced, he found the courage to be what we all should be, could be. He recognized all as fellow human beings. Someday we may live in a world as enlightened as he. Someday we may find the courage to live in peace.

  7. I’m glad he lived a very long life. I wish we all could be so lucky to live as long as he did.

  8. Oh dear. I had no idea. RIP.

I have just woken up to this sad news. He will surely be missed. South Africa is better because he lived

  10. And don’t let us forget De Klerk, who had the courage to make the handover of power.

    • Seyi sandra says:

You’re right, apologies for my late response. I moved house. Like I mentioned in my post, Mandela couldn’t have done it alone, he had helpers. Worthy men like De Klerk.

      Thanks for stopping by Helen.
      Warm regards. 🙂

  11. I so agree with you Seyi – spent all evening myself trying to sort out all the emotions and thoughts that were passing through me after hearing of his death. I did write a blog post and had similar thoughts re: the legacy that each one of us is leaving behind. http://beautyalongtheroad.wordpress.com/2013/12/05/nelson-mandela-light-of-inspiration/

There are many politicians, but very few statesmen, especially these days.

  13. He was a unique man, for sure.

  14. Beautiful man, kind, gentle and full of peace. Safe journeys to your new home Mr. Mandela, we will indeed miss you here on earth.

      Much love. 🙂

      • Ste J says:

So far my only Christmas preparation is to plan to review A Christmas Carol…and I have sent four cards off as well. I really should do some stuff for Christmas soon lol. Apart from that I am well and how be thee my dear friend!

A rock in history, he was Seyisandra. Amazing. I just know I wouldn’t be like he was after 27 years in prison.

I love this photo. Oh, that fire in his eyes… Beautiful.

  20. Lada Ray says:

    RIP – great man!

  21. Luanne says:
