If children live with
criticism, they learn to condemn.
If children live with hostility, they learn to
fight.
If children live with fear, they learn to be
apprehensive.
If children live with pity, they learn to feel
sorry for themselves.
If children live with ridicule, they learn to feel
shy.
If children live with jealousy, they learn to feel
envy.
If children live with shame, they learn to feel
guilty.
If children live with encouragement, they learn
confidence.
If children live with fairness, they
learn justice.
If children live with security, they learn
have faith.
If children live with tolerance, they learn
patience.
If children live with praise, they learn
appreciation.
If children live with acceptance, they learn to
love.
If children live with approval, they learn to like
themselves.
If children live with recognition, they learn it is
good to have a goal.
If children live with sharing, they learn
generosity.
If children live with acceptance and friendship, they learn
to find love in the world.
Dorothy Law Nolte.
I read this poem over and over again. Imagine a world where children live free from fear, when they grow up, they would impact the same to their children and the world would be a better place indeed!
Thank you for reading my post dear friends.
Love always:)
I have seen this poem before, totally agree with you. Children are made to grow up too quickly in America these days and see too much violence, negativity and strife. I assume the same happens where you live. Stinks doesn’t it.
Yeah it does John and thanks fro reading it. If we adhere by the poet’s vision, I bet the world would be a safer place. Thanks for stopping by, it’s appreciated.
Blessings:)
D. Nolte’s poem runs deep and is very true. I agree: children need all the love, encouragement, and protection. Thanks for sharing this, sis.

My pleasure as always Ms. Seyi Sandra. 😉
I have loved this poem for many years, and used to have a copy of it up on the wall in my office. It has the power that resides in any combination of compassion and wisdom.
You’re right Ben, It’s so powerful, hopely if the words in the poem were practiced the world would be a better place. Thanks for your comment and for stopping by.

That was very poignant. Hopefully people will learn to lean more to the postive than the negative. Thanks for sharing it, Seyi.
I agree with you, we can eliminate every negativity of this world if we train the children right, they are the present and the future. Thank you for stopping by, it’s appreciated!

Agree with you, very well written and a great poem – children should be allowed to be children – no matter where in the world they live – .the adult ambition destroys childhood…
Thank you for reading, I’m glad you liked it. Your assertion is right, ‘children should be allowed to be children.”
Cheers:)
Thanks Seyi the more I read from you the more I see your heart and what a beautiful heart it is!
Thanks for your kind comment Freddiejay and I realy appreciate your visit… Always!
Much love:)
It has been my year of thinking about kids, as I’d like to start a family in the next couple years. Thinking about what kinds people my parents were and what kinds of people I hope my children to be – that is, confident and happy people – make me strive to be a man who will provide for them in every way, especially emotionally. Thank you for the poem.
That is a good way to prepare for your kids in the future and I wish you the best in all that you do! Thank you for your comment and for stopping by!
Blessings:)
