A Farce Called Honour!

Oak Tree on snowy Fields at Sunset

Your only crime was to fall in love.

And that was all there was to it.

What a farce called honour!

When your heart beat wildly with fear,

And you sleep with one eye open,

Then you have a lot to fear!

When the icy glares of your parents and relatives

Sends a chill to your bone and a sword to your heart

Then you’re in big trouble!

When you run wildly through the moors

With the angry face of your father behind you

The snarling breath of your brother on your face,

Be very afraid indeed.

When all you can see, is the bag on your head.

As the man who brought you to the world scream,

‘Rot in hell,’ The heavens shudder!

When you hovered over their heads,

As your lifeless body was hidden from view.

What utter betrayal!

Your only crime was falling in love…

Just another incomprehensible statistics on the

culture of evil perpetuated by hatred.

And a farce called honour!

A class system where the love of a mother ran

cold against the daughter of her breast.

Thanks for reading my poetic thoughts on parents from hell…

That really is the parents from hell. 🙂

Unfortunately yes, it happens here in the UK, once their daughter is marrying outside the fold, they’ll be silenced! Thanks for your comment.

      • Alastair says:

I didn’t realise it happened so much here. I heard it once. It’s unfair. I know each religion has it’s own codes and things like that, but people should be able to marry for love, not because they have to. And they should be able to marry whoever they want, no matter the race, religion, colour, sex, creature .. .well, creature may be going too far 😉

      • Seyi sandra says:

Yeah it did, there was a girl called Shafilea Ahmed, who went missing in Warrington, Cheshire, her parents have been convicted of her passing! Such waste of life!!
Ha ha, creatures are out of the question…

      • Alastair says:

Yes. Killing someone for love means that they never really loved their child. If they did, they would allow her to be with who she wants

      • Seyi sandra says:

        My opinion exactly!
        Cheers:)

I must agree with you on marrying whom you please. God is the ultimate judge. This stuff is not for ordinary humans to judge. The parents killing the daughter is in my perspective, pure evil.

  3. Chilling description. Made my heart hurt – John

Frightening & sad reality. And – I wonder is that fear that goes through the mother to not save her daughter. Are they numb by then or just that brainwashed or do they think they gave birth to evil? I just don’t get it.

    • Seyi sandra says:

Possibly she’s been brainwashed and the word of the husband is law. In this kind of scenario, women hardly has a say, she could be frightened and wouldn’t say a word! Thanks for stopping by!
      Cheers:)

  5. Uzoma says:

Ha! This can’t be. It’s unthinkable. Parents killing their children just to fulfil their own intention(s)? God help us all.

Well, I can’t say that such evil–or worst–doesn’t exist in our contemporary world. But then, where is all this leading us to?

    A powerful writing, sis.

  6. plaridel says:

there’s no honor in honor killing.

  7. camc1105 says:

Beautifully written. I look forward to reading more from you. You have such great talent.

  8. ledrakenoir says:

    Very well written, even it’s a sadly issue… 🙂

    Really enjoy your post… 🙂

  9. seanbidd says:

The thin veil people hide behind within the word honour as a cloak to a corrupt belief in the rights of possession to life, class/cast should never hold value over love and/or life

  10. Salman Alvi says:

    Extravagantly written! Great job!

  11. kayladean says:

beautifully written, chilling. And what a beautiful accompanying photograph: it accurately depicts the barren wasteland of a home in which that poor child grew up.

    • Seyi sandra says:

Thank you for that kind comment, there are more girls like her still living in fear, in a home where they should be safe!
Thank you for stopping by my site, it’s appreciated!
      Cheers:)

  12. Powerful and eloquent 🙂

  13. This is so hauntingly conveyed. I was very affected by Shafilea Ahmed’s story when they showed it in a recent documentary. She was just so beautiful. It is impossible to understand the depraved and evil acts some religious beliefs encourage people to perpetrate.

  14. shovonc says:

It’s obviously evil. But it’s also thousands of years of brainwashing. Very hard to fight. The social systems that we Indians and the Arabs built (don’t know much about others) — extremely robust, like iron frames, with powerful defense mechanisms against evolution. It’s going to be a long war.

  15. WordsFallFromMyEyes says:

“utter betrayal” indeed, and I just cannot imagine being so.
