A Close Shave…

I woke up today with a languid feeling and a nasty headache.

Naturally, I should have called in sick at the office but I had deadlines to meet, meetings to attend and one million things that needed my attention. When it was two on the dot, I left the office, dashed to the grocery store to pick a few things, and made my way to my children’s school.

I had a few things on both hands and was angry with myself, I shouldn’t have bought so much stuff when I didn’t take the car. I looked straight ahead and saw cars slowing to a crawl. I walked briskly to the toucan crossing and wobbled along…

Shortly before I got to the other side of the toucan crossing, everything seemed to slow to a stop. I heard a whooshing sound and wondered briefly why that was, cars were still at a standstill on both sides of the crossing, but something was not right. I hesitated briefly and thank God did.

If I had hurried past the crossing, I would have had a nasty collision with a daredevil driver, who slipped past the other cars who were waiting at the crossing. The green light for the pedestrian was still on, so naturally, I had the right of way.  Suddenly, a ‘Smart‘ car appeared from nowhere and zoomed past me…

It was a close shave and a terrifying experience!

Well, I am glad to be home and not on a hospital bed. I would still be able to admire the dawning of a new day, to appreciate life and nature. To all my friends, please keep safe. God be with you all.

Much love, always.  🙂

The car may have been “Smart,” but the driver must have been low on brain power. Glad to hear you were not hurt. My car was recently struck at high speed by a person who had a soda bottle lodged beneath her brake pedal. SOME PEOPLE!

It was a shocking experience to say the least, I’m always careful! But when you’re crossing a toucan crossing, you believe you’re safe, because you can see cars on both sides waiting for pedestrians to cross. To suddenly see a car baring down on you can be unsettling…
Can you imagine the idiocy behind a woman driving a car with a soda bottle under her brake pedal? I hope you were not hurt and she paid the full insurance for the repairs on your car!

Phiew, sounds scary! Good to hear that nothing happened to you.

Glad you are a slow cautious walker.

    • Seyi Sandra's avatar Seyi sandra says:

I’m a brisk walker, even with the pedestrian light still on. I know cars are not fun, they could be dangerous so I always dash across… I thank God I was cautious today! Thanks for the Reblog and kind comment!

Would be a very catastrophic day were you to have “dashed” that day. Glad your hands were full.

Sometimes something will happen and we don’t know why. It will cause us to do something we don’t normally do – like hesitate at the Toucan crossing. Whether you look at it as your guardian angel interfering, God tapping you on the shoulder, instinct, sudden anxiety, these things can make a difference to us by saving our lives. These happen on a daily basis. Normally though, they are not so prominent like this one.

I’m thankful you are safe Seyi. After all, I would hate to think I was writing the review for nothing 😆 <— that was a joke 🙂

    • Seyi Sandra's avatar Seyi sandra says:

Thank you Alastair, I believe God is indeed looking out for me! It was a split second thing, I didn’t know why I hesitated, because I could see cars waiting patiently on both sides.
If anything had happened I believed you would still have written the review, who knows, you might help with a great press release and start a world wide prayer vigil for your blogger friend… Then you would come to London, manage my blog (I’ll give you the admin key!)
I’m glad I can blog about it Alastair! Things could have easily turn pear shape…

      • Alastair's avatar Alastair says:

You hesitated because something told you to.

Yes I would have written it, and yes I would have started something for you. Probably become your husband’s best friend as well to make sure he looked after himself haha.

I am glad that you are here to blog about it, and have a smile.

      • Seyi Sandra's avatar Seyi sandra says:

Yes I am, my husband would be lost without me (ha ha haaaa) he would probably become a monk and I’ll be a ghost hovering over you all. I should write a story about this Alastair!
It was a close call, and these things happen for a reason, I’m just grateful to be alive! Thanks for your friendship, I’m privileged to have met you on this blogosphere….

      • Alastair's avatar Alastair says:

A few months ago, I was a crossing near where I live and the lights changed saying I could cross. As I was about to, a single white feather dropped in front of me, so I stopped. A car didn’t stop. If I hadn’t seen that feather, i would have been spread down the road.

We each have our guardians. Whether someone up there or an angel behind us – or a ghost of a loved one lol. That’s what saves us from times where we could die.

      • Seyi Sandra's avatar Seyi sandra says:

That was so close, thank God you stopped! I can’t bear that thought! God knows you still have lots of people to inspire and help, your work is not done, neither is mine!
I’ve got God looking out for me, He’s there even when I doubt Him. He’s my friend and yours too.
My love to your beautiful children and have a great night rest dear friend!
        Cheers. 🙂

  11. utesmile's avatar utesmile says:

Glad you are safe, do be careful, it is always dangerous with drivers, and you need to focus as pedestrian as much as being a cyclist or a driver yourself. It is a shock when it is so close and you do thank God that nothing has happened. Take care!

    • Seyi Sandra's avatar Seyi sandra says:

Thank you for your kind and loving words, it means a lot to me. I’m always careful, when driving or walking I don’t take anything for granted. Life is precious and beautiful, the reason why I love people so much. Thanks for your friendship Ute! Enjoy the rest of your day.

So glad you are ok, Seyi sandra! By the way, I didn’t know what a Toucan crossing was and so I had to look it up. I was disappointed it wasn’t an exotic bird crossing!

    • Seyi Sandra's avatar Seyi sandra says:

Thanks for your kindness Luanne, if it was an exotic bird crossing, I would probably be in the hospital by now cos I love birds! Do enjoy the rest of your week!
