Time

Almost everyone can relate to the saying “time flies by like the wind”. It’s hard to believe that it’s almost July when it feels like we just celebrated the New Year. 2024 is just around the corner! In what ways can we take advantage of the fast-moving nature of time?

According to one theory, our perception of time may change as we grow older. As children, we experience the world with excitement and curiosity, perceiving time as never-ending. With age, our brains become more efficient at processing information, but we also become more set in our ways. As a result, we tend to be less aware of time passing and it may feel like the years are flying by quicker than before.

It’s great to unwind, walk in the park, and appreciate nature. Barking Park, London.

Our increasingly hectic lives can also make us feel like time is flying by. The day-to-day grind can make us lose sight of the bigger picture, and rushing through tasks can make our goals and dreams feel like distant fantasies.

So what can we do to slow down time and make the most of the moments we have? An approach that could work is to focus on mindfulness and being present at the moment. Through attentive observation of our surroundings and genuine interaction with others, we can create more profound and enduring memories.

To make time for what matters, we need to prioritise our goals. Spending time doing things we love can enhance our sense of purpose. The fact that time flies like the wind is a reminder of how valuable our time is on this planet. A life that feels satisfying and abundant can be achieved by embracing the present and making the most of every day, regardless of how swiftly time passes.

Have a fantastic weekend, everyone. Don’t forget to cherish those closest to you, love makes life worth living!

Much love, always. πŸ™‚

  1. I too have felt that time has flown by even faster in this year of 2023.

I honestly feel that Christmas Day 2022 was just a day ago and now it’s already 2 days past the summer solstice.

Time moves fast when we’re busy with life. My youngest son, 12, is almost taller than me, and it’s such a joy to see them grow but it shows time moving on. It never stops, we just have to use it well. Thanks for your comment and I hope you’ll have wonderful weekend.☺️

    Dear Seyi Sandra,
I have to admit for me it’s the other way round. I have the feeling that last Christmas and my lasst birthday f.e. is ages ago. I talked to friends of mine who are retired as well and they feel similar. Even last Easter seems to be a long time ago and more so when I look what I did meanwhile and what happened since. But at the same time I have the tempus fugit feeling when I think what I have to do today f.e. How can I get this all done, contacting my editor, driving garden waste to the recycling centre, mowing the lawn and doing that interview.
I suppose the feeling of time is not one-dimensional, time can be fast and slow at the same time even in the age of acceleration. It all depends on the situation we are in. Time is relative, isn’t it?
    Wishing you a happy weekend

I agree with you. I live a very fulfilling life as a journalist/author and cat sitter. Plus I have an excellent marriage and a happy social life. The days fly by as in I’m never bored, but they are so full that I wonder how I will get it all done – and still have time to take care of myself with exercise and meditation. But I do it!
And as each day is completed, I have this huge smile on my face for a great sense of accomplishment, living my dream life πŸ™‚

Indeed, nearly everybody who is blogging here has her or his ideal life. That’s the retired intellectual middle class that has time and means to blog f.e. like us, The Fab Four of Cley. We are all living our dream, but some are not aware of it. What a pitty.

That’s powerful. The ability to blog, write and touch lives worldwide is indeed a dream life. Not many have that privilege. Hope you’re enjoying the rest of your weekend my friend. Have a blissful night rest.☺️

Awesome! I’m happy you’re living the dream Maryanne and impacting lives through it through your books. Keep at it and enjoy the rest of your weekend.☺️

Dear Klausbernd, I’m in complete agreement with your comment. The perception of time, as you pointed out, is multi-dimensional. It brings to mind my former neighbours, both in their 80s and very ill. They expressed grief over the slowness of time and the loss of friends. Which reminds me of my late father too. After retiring and shortly before he passed away, despite constantly complaining about the slowness of time, his mood always improved when we visited him with his grandchildren. That was the reason I wrote about ‘almost everyone’ and not everyone’s perception of time. Time, in my opinion, is relative and varies according to our stage in life.

I’m grateful that you pointed that out. Hoping your weekend is filled with peace and sunshine! 😊 😊

  3. I’m absolutely terrified of time, Sandra. I also liked Klaursberd’s comment. Time depends on one’s stage in life. I wished there were 40 hours in a day for the things I want to do, so for me, time was on supersonic speed. I can’t wait for my retirement, hopefully with a bit of money, so I can travel the world and enjoy the time. Now, my to-do list is staring me in the face, and I haven’t even scratched the surface of it yet!

Sending you my warmest wishes for a delightful and peaceful weekend, Sandra.. 😊

Christy, it’s funny how we’re both in the same situation. Ha-ha! I can’t seem to have enough time for my deadlines etc. This busyness is a welcome distraction as I near old age and retirement, although that’s still a long time away, though :).
I hope you have a fantastic weekend. Look after yourself! 😊

You know, I’ve been thinking a lot, lately, about taking my wife out on at least a drive in the country or something, something to distract us from the world. This post is well-timed for me.
