I really want to make this a short post, but I guess I’ll just flow with the current. I’ve read and watched with a growing amount of apprehension at the recent UN decision to lift the arms embargo in Syria… I know – some of you might scoff or even snigger, what’s Syria got to do with me? But please, just read on.
Syria is comfortably in the Middle East, faraway from your suburban street with well laid lawns and ripening flowers in their blooms. You watched your kids get on the school bus, (or you take them) like I do every blessed morning but Syria can really come to our doorstep to hunt us.
Remember world war 2? Most of you don’t, I wasn’t even born then. Okay, let me bring things closer, what about Afghanistan? Osama Bin Laden? Yeah, at least that should jolt your memory. What about the Soviet Union and their infamous treaty with Hitler? And Hitler is not one to keep to little flimsy deals, he didn’t and he still invaded the Soviets, millions lost their lives. Well, Soviet Union has not learnt its (her? he?) lessons! The Soviets are still supporting Assad’s bloody campaign, with Iran!
What am I driving at, you may wonder. People are dying daily in Syria, blood is literally flowing on the streets unhindered, and to make matters worse, UN has lifted the arms embargo, and Britain and France would be sending arms to rebels. I even saw John McCain ( he lost the Presidential race against President Obama) in the papers grinning with some of the rebels.
Some people believed CIA had a lot do with Osama Bin Laden, check this article here; http://www.greenleft.org.au/node/24198
I don’t care because the guy is dead, but if the report is true, won’t the same thing happen in Syria? If the rebels eventually overthrow Bashar Assad, won’t the rebels turn against the West, like Osama did and then we’ll be talking about another wave of terrorism? The Middle East is considered a volatile region, war is not pretty, thousands are dying daily, sending arms to a fragmented country on the brink of collapse is just going to make things bad.
There’s little or nothing I can do but write, after all, some said ‘the pen is mightier than the sword,’ (or the nukes) as the case may be. I’m not sitting on the fence, I’ve said my piece. I just pray and hope that one day, we’ll see an end to all wars, suffering, hunger, hatred, bitterness…
Do you notice the gathering clouds in that picture? It’s a huge contrast to the power lines and beautiful landscape. I hope Syria would not blight our lives, I pray they (international community) would find a solution to end the blood shed soon, but not arming the rebels. It’s not a comfortable thought! Fighting violence with violence can only result in more casualties!
I hope this beautiful world of ours will not drench herself in the blood of the innocent.
Much love friends, and thanks for reading this post!
a very concerned post, I should say. i was thinking the same as soon as the news started coming out. It is a difficult situation and lots of people are dying. Russia seems to be doing what it has to do to make a comeback to the international issues. It doesn’t want to stay away as it used to. Putin is making all the moves and the West is suppying the rebels with arms. Britain did the same in Afghanistan and so did the U.S. I just hope they know what they are doing because as you said, sooner or later it’s all gonne bounce back at the world as a revived terrorism.
Thanks Manu for your insightful comment! It’s been going on subtly and I think my apprehension is justified. On the other hand, I hope it plays out smoothly, although I doubt it. History has a canny way of repeating itself! I appreciate your visit.
Cheers.
Seyi, you are absolutely right;, your concerns are not unfounded at all. Just this morning I was discussing this very same issue with my husband. It is the same west, with France leading that aided the ‘rebels’ against Gaddafi. And we all know the result. Gaddafi is dead and Libya is no where near free. The same thing happened to Iraq. Saddam was toppled and killed and the US moved in and chaos followed. There was and is no sign of the much ‘acclaimed’ biological weapon.
Well, as for Syria, it may go up in flames, literally and figuratively, because Israel is also ready to move in and stop any shenanigans and that is bound to be explosive. The stage is getting set, Seyi, if not set already. All we can do is pray to a God who may be on the side of Israel or this time, on the side of all those who genuinely call on His name. Either way, it is terrible, Russia versus the west. Russia is oily using Assad as a camouflage. Putin wants to pit his might against the west once more. Apparently, this is not the cold war. This is hot war.
Thank you Celestine for your visit and comment. Russia wanted to still remain relevant in the world stage but the way they’re going about it is wrong. The Soviets are renowned for being stubborn and unreasonable, remember the cold war? When the threats of nuclear weapon was a possibility, thank God, that’s over, but there would always be threats of war! It’s messy, all messy, I just hope and pray that events won’t boomerang and (UN) Britain, France, US are not making a huge mistake. I appreciate your visit dear friend.
Much love. 🙂
This is profound, powerful, moving and insightful! The powers that be calls the shots but the helpless and innocent victims are the civilians – they always bear the brunt of war! The international community are confused and perplexed, and like any strong corporation, they tend to squabble, fight and deliberate on the best way forward. But like normal pitiful and sick human beings, they also tend to make mistakes. We can only hope that lifting the arms embargo on Syria is a wise decision, if it’s not – we’ll definitely be beset by another wave of terror, and the circle of violence would start again – that’s what I call – life! Thanks for sharing your concern Ms. Seyi Sandra David.
Thank you so much for your kind comment. I do hope we’ll be able to learn from the past and go through dialogue and not supporting the senseless killings of people!

oh sweetheart, I feel your pain. I hate every time our government gives weapons to phsycho’s, of course, I disagree with all wars. How long will the human race remain childish and stupid? I truly feel for the most part, people are very immature. Taking what you want by force rather than working out a solution, is just insanely childish. Its like watching 2 year olds. Yet we vote in grown men who scheme and plan like two years olds on a mission to catch the cat. For the last ten years, it has blown my mind to discover how corrupt and stupid these people are. I’m truly embarrassed to be a US citizen! I think, God, HOW LONG will it take the human race to actually become HUMANE? We can’t control these other nations, make them do what we think is right. We never know who we’re giving those weapons to. It just amazes me how blind and unaware so many people are on this planet. We’ve had 5000 years and not made ONE real move towards HUMANITY! It’s so sad, I can’t let myself think about it for too long, it just breaks my heart! We are wasting money and energy on fighting when we could be feeding and digging wells all over the planet to stop the mass starvation and death. Really, We’re all still just poop throwing monkeys! lol
You’ve summed it all up, governments, nations, people are all immature! I don’t understand why some people believe it’s their ‘rights’ to govern a country forever, while others believe it’s only through bloodshed they would dialogue. We have done nothing towards humanity….
I totally agree. It is such chaos out there that we can’t vouch for one side or the other. If we send arms we are just adding to the madness.
Exactly Paul, that’s what I’m concerned about. Thanks for stopping by, I truly appreciate it!
Blessings. 🙂
Wow, I really enjoyed this piece. I agree with you 100%. Lets not feed them the fuel that will down the whole town. Keep on writing one day your words will not go unnoticed.
Thank you! That’s a big consolation. I appreciate your kind comment! Enjoy the rest of your day!
Blessings. 🙂
Amazing photo and you ‘re totally right if we want peace lets move in another way and not with to contribute in war! 🙂
Thanks for your kind comment! I also appreciate your visit, God bless you!

Interesting what you said about the gathering clouds and the contrast. I had not seen it at all until you pointed it out. You’re such a poet, to see such.
Great post.
Thanks for that, I’m blushing now!
Much love. 🙂
Osama Bin Laden died on September 13, 2001 of kidney failure in a Suadi Hospital two days after the Twin Towers were attacked on the 11th of that year. “Zero Dark Thirty” is an utter lie. Benizhir Bhutto (Hopefully I spelled her name correctly) was assassinated for telling the world the truth about Bin Laden’s death on CNN. Bin Laden died loyal to the CIA. Many soldiers have come forward since the false flag lies of Bin Laden’s demise in 2011 (If my memory got that right, it is all a jumble in my head.) Bin Laden died a loyal CIA Agent/Asset and became the boogeyman in the wake of his death, because the general population is the considered the real threat to Government Sovereignty, Terrorists are just tools to prop up failing agendas so that we are duped into following heroes who are sent off to the slaughter so the Banks can press the Government to criminilize freedom, or steal from the populace at home. They have stolen between 5-10 Billion x The Global Population from every man woman and child, and all are legally owed 5-10 Billion a piece for every man woman and child on Earth. All Governments, Banks, and Corporations on the planet were foreclosed on Christmas Day 2012, for crimes of High Treason and Crimes Against Humanity by the planned Global Enslavement of all people inside of a legal framework giving the system a case for deniability to their actions through obfuscating language giving themselves a cover story that they can point to and falsely say that we gave them consent to be our slavemasters.
Wow! That was intense and deep!! I can’t even add anything to it, on it’s own, it’s a post! Thanks for coming by, I appreciate it!
🙂
🙂 And, thank you for having your own unique thoughts.
