It’s really annoying but one horrible person in Egypt just hacked into my primary email account and was sending malicious emails! 😦 😦
This is the first time I’ve experienced this and it’s unsettling!
I’ve managed to change my password, a fellow blogger sent an email to warn me though I couldn’t reply because yahoo apparently blocked me from sending emails until it was rectified.
Hacking into one’s personal email account is akin to armed robbers breaking into one’s home. A big thank you to Candace, http://changeitupediting.com/ I appreciate you!

That is awful! It happened to me too. It was devastating and embarrassing. I felt so violated I deleted everything in that email account including beautiful love letters my husband emailed me when we first met. I now regret deleting, but I felt so invaded! If you’re on Yahoo, I wouldn’t recommend using it. Next time make your password extra long with letters and numbers.

I agree, I wouldn’t start over again with the same account either. That’s why when my Yahoo account got hacked, I deleted everything — including the account, and then switched to Gmail. Since 2009, no problems! Plus I love their Google Calendar and other options.

Yes it does. I don’t use the email address that happened to me on any more. It just sits there gathering spam
Maybe I’ll do the same… Just the thought of transfering contacts, emailing several of my business contacts, it’s a mammoth task! However, I’ll survive, thanks for your friendship Alastair, I appreciate it!

Like mindless graffiti, I don’t get the motivation for causing other people grief by doing this sort of thing. It sucks that we have to have convoluted passwords that are difficult to remember, just to protect ourselves. There should be a way to lock all of this stuff without this…Hope nothing too sensitive or bad happened with this.

be sure to change any other passwords, especially if you do any online banking.
yes, it’s frustrating when yahoo won’t let you send out any emails – sometimes it’s very important to send some correspondence, “yes, hold that plane!” and you can’t send anything out.
it’s been happening to many people lately – aol, yahoo.. i even had someone delete several of my posts on wordpress.. don’t leave your computer online and idle for long periods of time.. it gives those demons a greater opportunity to hack you.

Thanks Z, I thought because I work on my OWN laptop, I’m immune, apparently I’m wrong. Some humans are practically sick, how can someone just delete your posts on wordpress, what gain is there? But we live in a strange world.Thanks for your advice, I’ll adhere to it!

That is hard to take….but it seems you know who did it? That would be especially rough…as for viruses and whatnot, I guess I just do not take too much of it seriously. Your friends know you and it will be over in a week or so….you will see!
I don’t know the pepertrator, yahoo revealed the location of the hacker when I was investigating. I also have business contacts, I’ll have to be drafting countless letters when I should be promoting my book!

Hope it gets solved quickly. How do you know the person comes from Egypt? Did he identify himself?
It’s resolved now Subhan, the guys at Yahoo gave me the location of the hacker but you can find out if someone had logged into your email by going to the top bar where you log out. There’s a star like button beside it and once you click it, it would give you several options or simply contact Yahoo’s customer service. I’m glad you’re much better.

I used to work for Yahoo…I think the number one reason we saw people get hacked was passwords that weren’t strong enough…make sure its a combo of letters/number/symbols and that its not a word anyone could guess (like your dog’s name, etc). I’m terrible about this myself as my memory is so bad that I have trouble remembering complex passwords, but it will definitely protect you. Also make sure your security questions are set so that no one but you would know the answers, and add your phone to the account as an extra security measure,

I was recently hacked and my husband was this morning and a close friend was recently. All Yahoo accounts. It does feel so violating. I think gmail has better security. I’m sorry for your loss (of the feeling of safety).

Hacking is one of the worst things that can happen to anyone. The clean-up afterwards is just tiring. Hope everything is settled.

It happens. It’s damaging. It’s easiest with laptop computers (you say you use them). There are hackers everywhere that take advantage of WiFi like that.
It’s reason to keep the sensitive material disconnected as much as possible.
Recommendations: limit exposure time (try offline reading), and use separate, long illegible passwords, with symbols if possible. Change regularly/occasionally as hackers may eventually obtain the old ones. I store them in obscure locations (can’t hack paper!) so I don’t have to memorize them.
You’re right Adam, can’t hack papers! I’ve changed my password word thrice now and will still do. It was just shocking but I’ve shaken it off.
