In Search Of Innocence

John Revisted (part 1)

I first heard the news on TV, that a  3-year-old boy had disappeared at Edinburg overnight, (this was a few days ago) my heart was in my mouth and when the police revealed that they weren’t looking for little Mikaeel Kular anymore, my heart sank. (To some, this is stale news but I couldn’t get the face of the boy from my mind) I’m the kind of woman who believes in the impossible, miraculous acts that usually astound and even confound the most obstinate heart. However, the story of this little, innocent boy hit me hard.

You may wonder why, I am not in any way related to the Kulars, but I am a mother, who had experienced the loss of a child, although not in that way. You may read of my true story here: http://seyisandradavid.org/2012/11/14/death-and-the-angels-of-mercy/

The most disturbing aspect of the story, is this,  the mother seems to be the major suspect, I don’t want to delve too much into the story of the mother or what propelled her into such an atrocious act but of that innocent boy. Someone once commented that people shouldn’t be taken on facial values (whatever that means!) and that no one should be trusted, in a way, the commenter could be right. We live in a very dangerous world but I am forever an optimist, and would remain so, even in the face of outright evil. Mikaeel must have loved his family, but something went wrong and now he is no more. Whatever the circumstances of his passing, I believe he’s at peace now, safe from harm.

I only hope we live in a world where the innocent would not pay for the sins of the wicked and like Louis Armstrong’s song, we do live in a wonderful world minus the murderers, perverts and the indescribable.  Although our world is often tainted by evil, we can do our bit to make it a better place, by being our brother’s keeper – watching out for others in our own little way… endlessly searching for the innocent… helping the homeless, like the man in the picture… That way, the innocents would be safe from the onslaught of wicked people!

Escape…

8688494280_080e1c9f79_o

I must have fallen and hit my head on the pavement, I felt hands on my legs and slowly, I slipped away. Then the pulling started, I felt searing pain tearing my insides into million pieces. I wanted to scream but couldn’t. It was a scary feeling. I felt trapped, immobile but my senses were sharp. I wanted to feel my body but it was like being wrapped in a bubble.

It was a floating kind of feeling, if you know what I mean but I guess you don’t. Then darkness came, it was oppressive and in my comatose existence, I welcomed it.

I was like that for God knows how long when suddenly,  sounds began to filter to me. It wasn’t clear or anything but I could make out voices. By now, I think I know a bit about my situation but escaping from wherever I am, was impossible.

Again, I tried to touch tangible things but I was weightless, helpless and the floating feeling returned in intensity. Then I realised that my mind could do things. I thought of Tom, my son, and immediately I was racing towards his school, invisible but in a life form all the same.

I breezed inside and saw him in the lecture room, his face ashen and seemed carved out of granite. I wanted to touch him but there was this irrepressible gulf. I felt defeated and thought of my husband. My mind took me on a whirlwind drive back to the hospital.

That was the first time I saw myself.

My bloated face looked blue and lifeless. Tubes were sticking out from every part of my body. Nathan, my husband was speaking but I couldn’t make out the words properly. I concentrated all my energy and studied his lips and finally, caught what he was saying,

‘It’s been five years doctor! I want my wife back.’

The doctor shook his head and patted my husband on the shoulder and slowly walked out of the room.

Then the memories rushed back.

I’ve been in coma for five years? I could float out of my body and see things! I’m trapped. I thought and watched my husband approach me on the bed. He crouched low and his hands slowly found the exposed part of my arm.

‘Please forgive  me Carey, I’m so sorry. I tried…’ And his voice trailed away.

What? Wait, don’t pull the plug, I’m here, don’t kill me! Don’t stop my life support!’ I screamed with everything I’ve got but Nathan walked to the other side of the bed and a miracle occurred, he stopped midway. Staring at me.

He paused for a while and looking straight at me he said, ‘I’ll fight for you Carey, I’ll wait. You’ll come back to me and the boys.’

I guess I escaped but how on earth am I going to open my eyes. I can hear things, I can see but the doctors thought I’m brain-dead. I really want to live… Can you please help me?

****************

This story,  whatever it is, came to my mind today early in the morning when my three-year old son trotter to my room and crept under the covers. Since my sleep was broken, I thought of the former Israeli Prime minister, Ariel Sharon who had been in a coma since 2006. It’s mysterious how someone could slip into a coma while still alive. Some come out of it and some don’t. I guess we should be thankful for everyday we see the sun. On a lighter note, Carey came out of the coma and it was happy days again. If only life is as simple as fiction.

Thanks for reading and have a brilliant week friends!

Much love. :)

Stranded At Santum Close (2)

Statue of Archangel Michael by August Vogel ab...

 Hamburg, Germany

The lone figure toddled along the street; the warm night air was like poison to his troubled soul. He dragged his left leg along and grunted with each painful step. His hunched shoulders were home to a coat, which hung on his gaunt frame like shredded shrouds. His small, beady eyes were still sharp and bright. He moved slowly but surely towards St Michael’s Church. When he neared the church, he glanced wearily at the bronze figure of Archangel Michael, which stood at the portal of the church conquering the devil but the image merely intensified his uneasiness.

He stiffened at the horrible thought that crossed his mind, ‘is any of the Leonhards still alive? If so, my soul be damned.’ At the ripe old age of 81, Bernstein Joel Bonnke believed his bones would not rest in his grave until he has seen an end to the last descendant of the cancer of Germany. His shaky head glared at the picture in his right hand, it was the picture of a beautiful dark-haired woman,  her features were lovely, but as far as he was concerned, she carried in her genes, an evil so potent, it must not be allowed to sprout. Bernstein gritted his teeth in quiet anticipation, if things worked according to plan, then his meeting at Santum Close would be successful.

Gordon’s car glided smoothly into the driveway, he killed the engine and opened the door of his Aston Martin. He closed it loudly for emphasis and muttered under his breath,

‘I’m still angry!’

He strode towards the door and stopped short, a creepy feeling slowly made its way down his spine. A worried frown crossed his taut face. He couldn’t place it but suddenly, he wanted to hold Linda in his arms, his earlier anger evaporated instantly.

He opened the front door and met a full house.

His mother and sons sat with glum faces while three police officers stood sentry close to the kitchen, whispering to themselves. Gordon’s heart sank; he knew something bad must have happened to Linda.

‘Hey mom,’ he croaked out, there was a stubborn lump on his throat.

His mother, Bertie stood up. She was a plain Jane, round, matronly but with the sweetest smile ever. She sauntered to where her son stood sheepishly, looking like a cat caught stealing a neighbour’s milk and held him close.

‘Linda didn’t make it to the office.’ Bertie whispered sadly, her eyes brimming with tears.

Gordon moved away from his mother’s embrace and faced his sons, they didn’t utter a word, but their accusing eyes spoke volume.

The police officers approached cautiously, their faces, deadpan and serious.

Eliza stood up and went to his room; Gordon stared at his retreating back and knew he has lost his son. He watched the police officers as they approached him and the knot in his stomach tightened as they inched closer.

They told him the news he had dreaded since stepping into the house.

One thing I’ve realised about relationships is this, we tend to jump to conclusions quickly. Suspicion and mistrust kills love faster than unfaithfulness and you know what I’m going to say next – Live well and love well.

The next part of this story would be next Wednesday, I appreciate your comments! :)

I write like Jeffrey Archer, I don’t plan my stories, I just write as the pen leads! I love you guys, and do enjoy the rest of this great week.

NP: There’s one thing though – I’m having problems commenting on all the blogs I visited yesterday, it’s like been banned from speaking to your friends! :(  I do hope WordPress would fix this!!

Much love, always!

Ancient Secrets!

1401750_31054373

Evelyn found herself in a dark slimy pit.

She looked around wildly but knew she was alone. She stood up; trying to feel her way around, then heard a low rumbling sound.

Evelyn screamed and it echoed. The sound reverberated and seemed to bounce back on the thin walls. Sobs racked through her body at her desolation. Wherever she was, her destiny was worse than before. She felt a tremor, looked down at her feet, and saw a big opening on the floor. There was a cracking sound and the ground slowly divided into two. She found herself flying to the other side of the pit and when she looked up; the sun was streaming down into the pit.

Surprisingly, a chain materialized from nowhere spinning towards her direction. She grinded her teeth in anticipation as she grabbed the chain but it was so hot it burnt her palms and she screamed out in pain and released it. The gaping hole on the ground was now closing together, Evelyn knelt down and peered inside it as flames of fire spurted out and suddenly, a creature came out of the flames.

He was a very good-looking man.

His hair was dark and curly; his eyes brown and his skin was a bronze like colour, a white robe covered his body.

”Come and I will lead you out of this place but there will be a covenant between us.”

Evelyn stared at the creature and at her surroundings, she had no recollection of how she got into the pit but she did remember her daughter, Caroline. She wanted to get back to her as soon as possible.

”I will do anything, please just get me out of here.” She said desperately; hope lighting up her entire being.

Hey friends, this is an excerpt from ‘The Feet Of Darkness,’ I hope you like it. One thing I’ve realised about life is this, there are so many ancient secrets lurking beneath the shadows, all around. Look at the Ohio Kidnap – how can three women be held against their will for ten solid years! It defies explanation but that’s how cruel life is…

Here’s a link to the novel if you’re interested.

Your Face!

LEROY SKALSTAD

What’s in a face you may wonder.

The face captures the essence of the soul.

Your face is like the gate-keeper of your destiny.

It defines who you really are.

Your eyes draw people to you like magnet.

Your nose sniffs out success.

Your lips tastes life.

Your teeth sustain you!

Your cheeks impact on your glory.

It puffs up when you’re full and shrinks at your lowest ebb.

Your face is permanently yours.

You can’t divorce your face.

You’re stuck with it!

You might BOTOX it.

Plum it up.

Try to redefine it.

But you can’t go on holiday without it!

You can bleach it white.

Or darken it with suntan creams.

But it’s forever yours!

Your face is beautiful.

 Your face is a mystery!

It’s the mirror to your soul.

Take care of your face guys… it would be with you for eternity!

I saw a man today on my way to work, my eyes locked with his for a brief second and we connected briefly. The man’s face stayed with me throughout today. He was an old man, probably tending towards eighty but he looked happy. I couldn’t help thinking of the kind of life he’d lived to that moment when we passed by each other like breeze on a country side. The writer in me sprung to life and when I got home, I penned this words. I hope you like it!

Much love to you my friends!

Tales Of Five Lies And Stepping Into Greatness!

 Tales Of Five Lies

I want to give you my readers, few nuggets to chew on my book, aptly titled, ”Tales Of Five Lies.” And for the record, nobody can predict the end of the world, so why not enjoy yourselves, tuck into your turkey and march into your glorious future!

Excerpts;

It was a dark and lonely place. Time dragged on excruciatingly slow and I was contemplating going back to my comfortable bed when I saw a man darting behind a tree. All my senses came alive and I watched with apprehension, my hand on the gun my dad gave me before he died. I always take it with me as a safety measure.

I stood still watching every movement the man made, I noticed he glanced round briefly, apparently satisfied he was alone then he whistled. Two men emerged from the shadows dragging a bulging bag between them. My mind went wild with all kinds of theory, what could they be burying at that time of the night and how on earth did my best friend got a whiff of their plans? Something was not right, I could feel it deep within my bones.

They got a secluded spot and began digging…

Immolation? I Hate Fire!

Thich Quang Duc

Thich Quang Duc (Photo credit: HopeTom)

I saw this caption, ‘I hate fire’ embedded in a picture on a blog I visited recently and I thought, why not quickly pen this down before returning to my Nanowrimo novel.

Yes, I hate fire and it was actually strange and saddening that some people could light themselves up in protest against oppression! Don’t get me wrong guys, I am not against people demonstrating, albeit, peacefully, but burning yourself? That is a bit in the extreme.

A few months ago, I saw the picture of a Tibetan monk literally lighting himself up! He was protesting against oppression and when I did a little research, I found out the story of Thich Quang Duc, a very popular Buddhist monk revered to this day.

Early in the morning on June 11,1963 at a popular intersection in Saigon, Thich Quang Duc had made his intention known to his superiors that he was going to burn himself to draw attention to the plight of the monks who were being severely oppressed by the US-backed Catholic regime of Ngo Dinh Diem in South Vietnam.

Now I won’t bore you with the graphic details but this Duc guy died for a cause he believed in, and I can’t begin to imagine the excruciating pain he must have felt when he was being burned alive! And so… he died!

The war finally came to an end and many people attested to the fact that his sacrifice was instrumental in drawing the attention of the world to the plight of the monks, and also in a way ending the war.

I don’t encourage anyone emulating that in any way, but that is just my opinion!

Life is a mystery and we can’t understand it all…
